The first letter in the goal-setting SMARTER principles we said we would tackle is the letter “S” which stands for “being SPECIFIC.” You must decide what it is you really want in life before you can identify ACTION PLANS in order to achieve this specific goal. Many people keep missing the mark because they have not really thought hard what it is they really want to achieve and its importance to them. They are the strike-everywhere individuals who do a lot of things but are not really achieving much. Only a few have decided to FOCUS on what they really want to achieve in life and have been willing to refuse doing the things that will only distract them from reaching their goal.

After 8 years of employment (2 years as a high school teacher and 6 years in a financial firm) I’ve finally decided to tread a different path of earning income where I’m on top of my own business, not tied up to a grueling 8-10 hours of office work, just working in the comfort of staying at home with a laptop and internet connection running and growing a business I can now proudly call my own, having the opportunity to earn beyond what my previous companies had been able to pay me, and being in full control of my time. I honestly think this has been a long overdue decision I should have long before made, as it wasn’t just yesterday when I knew what I really wanted in life:(1) financial prosperity which would enable me to be of better help to others financially and (2) a free-er time to do other equally important things than earning for a living. I’ve long knew I will not be able to do other things of utmost importance to me if I’m stucked in an 8 to 10 hours of office work on Mondays-Fridays, leaving me not much of a time for myself as weekends are spent to do the other important things in my life. I long to be of better financial help to others but my meager pay in the office is barely enough for day-to-day expenses, and I long to have more time to do other important things I consider the very PURPOSE of my existence.

While many well-meaning people in my life have discouraged me from pursuing this unpopular internet home-based business, I intend to prove them wrong as I financially reap harvest from this business, able to do other important things of GREATER VALUE to me. I’ve become SPECIFIC in my goal and I intend to work hard in achieving it.

It starts with a SPECIFIC desire followed by a SPECIFIC ACTION PLAN in order to fulfill and meet that desire. I know it sounds too simple to many, but truth is only a few have been courageous and decisive enough to pursue the things they know would really give them fulfillment and joy in life. A lot of people find themselves seemingly stucked trying to manage their current plight, afraid to “rock the boat” or “leave the boat” (which is their comfort zone) in order to step off-shore and tread the path leading to what they really want. Unless you have already decided what it is you SPECIFICALLY want and have decided it’s hightime you start pursuing it, you will never live a fulfilling life.

Be SPECIFIC in what you want, state it specifically, and decide to take SPECIFIC actions to start pursuing it.
